This past few days until Monday, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting at least 22 Russians at the resort. They were accompanied by 2 tour leaders from RuDive.com, the leading diving vacation provider in Russia.

It was quite exciting to have them diving with Mermaid. On Saturday, February 13 there were over 30 divers and a large bulk of them were these guests from RuDive.

Apart from water activities, they were also treated to buffet meals and a nature tour on Sunday where they visited the famed Hidden Paradise and Tamaraw Falls, had barbecue and a lot more!

Greetings to all of you and we hope to see you again soon!

Experience the same fun and excitement by Booking with Mermaid Resort now!

Know the rules.

SCUBA diving is not a free-for-all, free-to-do anything kind of sport. There are certain restrictions and limitations such as certifications, training, physical health, weather, and a lot more. Knowing such will protect underwater life as well as yours.

Continuing from Master Instructor Profile: Daddy Bob at the Helm (Part 1)

I’d like to know now about his current capacity as Master Instructor for Mermaid Resort. Now, one becomes a Master Instructor, according to Bob, “…by instructing…after you have certified so many people and met all the rest of the criteria which also includes some business seminar training and that sort of thing…under PADI. You have to certify so many people in each different category and so many divers overall. You also have to teach at least 10 specialties. I have 17 specialties…like underwater photography, underwater videography, search and rescue, search and recovery, and the list goes on and on.”

In 1956, a British naval diver by the name of Lionel “Buster” Crabb went missing after a covert diving operation involving a visiting Soviet cruiser. The same year, 17-year old Robert “Bob” Kieran decided to take on a new sport - Scuba Diving. It did not take long for the rest of the world to join him - what with the launch of the Sea Hunt underwater adventure TV series in 1957 and the initial efforts of YMCA for a scuba certification course in 1959.

I’m listing my ten Sabang diving goals this year. I’m keeping them pretty conservative so as not to turn them into the usual New Year’s resolutions. LOL

1.       Do a night dive - and give new meaning to “the Sabang Night Life!”

2.       Do a Wreck Dive - or perhaps visit all the wreck  sites in Puerto Galera

3.       Blog about 20 new sea life I encounter in my dives this year

4.       Take photos during a shark encounter - perhaps in Shark Cave?

5.       Go through an underwater tunnel - Sweetlip Corner, maybe?

6.       Join an underwater clean up activity

7.       Buy a cool new diving gadget - ahhhh…a dive computer! :)

8.       Get Rescue Diver certified

9.       Meditate underwater from full tank to just enough to surface - have a poor soul video-record the whole thing

10.   Take 100 pictures of Nudibranchs and line up the photographs according to the color wheel. Or at least try to. :)

What are your diving goals this year?
